About this item
An original British Army ordinary ranks single breasted greatcoat in excellent condition.
This pattern of greatcoat closely resembles those made during the Great War for the British Army. It is made from a khaki green coloured blanket serge wool and features a single breasted front which fastens with 5 buttons. The coat features a large stand and fall collar which can be fastened with a hook and eye and flapped pockets are located to the waist. The underside of the flap features a tab and button detail which is notable on Great War period coats also. To the rear of the coat is a half belt which fastens with three brass general service buttons and there is also a vent which again fastens with the same type of buttons.
Inside the coat the original label is present and is still bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Greatcoat, Dismounted' below which is the size of 5. The maker's name of 'James Smith & Co. (Derby)' is also present as is the War Department broad arrow. The issue date of September 1939 has also been added. As well as this there is a War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'R' which confirms 1939 as the year of issue.
A rare original BEF period coat!
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
