About this item

A nice original early Second World War 'Smock, Drab' clearly dated 1942 and in a size No. 2.

This pattern of smock was introduced in 1942 and was based on the same design as the earlier Denim Windproof Smock. It is made from a heavy, tan coloured cotton material which is not often encountered compared to the more common gabardine version. The factory fitted chocolate brown coloured vegetable ivory (plastic) buttons are fitted to the top two pockets whilst the bottom pockets have period replacement green coloured examples. A white drawstring is fitted around the mouth of the hood whilst another larger example can be found along the bottom seam.

Inside the smock the original label is still present and is bright and legible. It bears the title of 'Smock Suit' and states the size as 2 and the manufacturer as 'Thomas Briggs (M/Cr) Ltd'. The date of 1942 is present as is the War Department broad arrow marking. Adjacent to this is the War Department acceptance stamp which is surmounted by the letter 'O' which confirms 1942 as the year of issue.

When laid flat the smock measures -

Chest - 28"
Inside arm - 20 1/2"
Outside arm - 20"
Shoulders - 24 1/2"

The smock is in very good condition for its age with some limited signs of wear and age. There is a small repair to the lower left pocket along with some limited staining. On the whole it is a very clean example but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have other small issues commensurate with age.

A good original example in nice, wearable condition.

This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
