Original 1943 Dated Indian Made Jungle Green Battledress Trousers

A rare original pair of Indian made British Jungle Green Battledress Trousers dated 1943 and in good condition. 

This pattern of trousers was introduced into service in 1943 and was issued to men of both the British Army and Royal Air Force who were serving in the Far East in the latter part of the Second World War. Made from a cotton drill which was vat dyed a grey-green colour, the trousers have a similar look to denim trousers of the same period. They feature two straps and buckles to fasten the waist - the same style as used on KD shorts and trousers. A double pleated first field dressing pocket is located on the right hip whilst the left leg has a map pocket which features a single pleat - a feature unique to this pattern. The buttons are a mix of styles often seen on Indian made trousers and the map pocket features a British made stamped brass button. These were most likely fitted in place of the factory buttons by the original owner. The rear of the trousers also features a pleated patch pocket which again fastens with a brown coloured vegetable ivory button.

One of the most interesting details is the ankle tabs located at the cuff. This was a detail only seen on early production examples from 1943 and is very rare to find today. 

Inside the trousers the circular date stamp has been applied to the pocket bag and bears the date of 1943.

The trousers will fit around a 29" waist depending on desired fit. When laid flat they measure - 

Waist - 14 1/2"
Rise - 16 1/2"
Rear rise - 18"
Inside leg - 30 1/2"
Outside leg - 43 1/2"
Cuff - 10"

The trousers are in good condition as can be seen in the pictures. They show some signs of wear or use with various staining and signs of laundering. Overall they display well but please take time to study the pictures provided and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age. 

A nice pair of original Jungle Green Battledress Trousers in good condition and with a nice clear wartime date and rare early features.
