About this item
A nice original 1941 pattern Auxiliary Territorial Service khaki drill skirt which is dated 1944.
This pattern of skirt was worn by members of the ATS throughout the Second World War and into the immediate postwar period. It is made from the standard tan coloured cotton drill used for KD items during this period and the cut is based on the 1942 pattern service dress skirt which was made in saxony serge. The skirt features a side button opening which in part fastens with small press studs whilst a button closes the waistband. Unlike the saxony serge version, there are no pockets.
Inside the skirt the original label is atoll present and is bright and legible. It bears the title ‘Skirt, K.D. A.T.S.’ Below which is the size of 13 which is intended to fit a 25” - 26” waist. The maker's name of ‘M. Shorn & Sons Ltd’ is also present as is the 1944 date and the War Department B-road arrow marking.
The skirt will actually suit a 24” waist and when laid flat it measures -
Waist - 12”
Hips - 20 1/2”
Length - 29”
The skirt is in excellent condition overall with no signs of previous wear or use. It could be described as 'deadstock' or 'unworn' but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.
A very good example of this pattern of skirt which has a clear wartime date!
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
