About this item

An original 1944 dated British Royal Navy officer's greatcoat which is in good condition.

This pattern of greatcoat was worn throughout officer's of the Royal Navy throughout the Second World War. IT is made from a heavy, black coloured doeskin material and features a double breasted front which fastens with gilt king's crown Royal Navy buttons. Flapped pockets are located to the upper portion of the skirt and there is a half belt at the rear. The coat is fitted with an original set of epaulettes which denotes the rank of sub Lieutenant.

The interior of the coat is fully lined in a black coloured rayon material and there are two inner pockets. There is also a hanging loop at the neck and a throat latch is fitted inside the coat. The original maker's label is present inside one of the interior pockets and bears the maker's name of 'Miller, Rayner & Haysom'. The original owner's name of R. P. J. Giles is present as is the date of 8/5/44.

The coat will suit a 40" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 23"
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 26 1/2"
Shoulders - 18 1/2"
Length at rear - 48"

The coat is in good condition and displays well. It is totally wearable with no serious damage or flaws although there are some light moth grazes which are noticeable under close inspection. Please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which has some small flaws commensurate with age.

A nice original example with a clear wartime date.

This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
