About this item

A scarce original 1945 dated British Army camouflage tank suit in a size 4.

This pattern of tank suit was introduced in 1945 and saw some use in the latter stages of the Second World War. It is based on the same design as was used for the tan coloured 'Oversuit, Tank Crews' but made using a material which has had the WW2 brushstroke camouflage pattern printed onto it. The suit is fitted with brass 'D.O.T' branded zippers to the front which function as they should. The fly zip is also still functioning and features a 'Swift' branded zipper with pendant shaped puller, as is often seen used for the fly on these suits. Green plastic buttons are used to secure the chest flap behind the main zippers and brass press studs are fitted throughout. The wool lining and brace straps have both been removed which makes the suit much more lightweight. Sections have also been added to the bottom of each leg in an interesting blue coloured camouflage material and the original epaulette press studs have been changed. Due to the additional sections to the bottom of each leg, the suit cannot be fully unzipped.

The outside of the suit features various pockets including a breast pocket which has a pen holder section to the front. There is also a First Field Dressing pocket located to the right hip and four map pockets are located to the legs, all of which fasten with press studs. There are straps to the end of each sleeve which also fasten with press studs. The collar features two straps which fasten with single prong buckles and there is a patch pocket to the interior which is made from the same khaki coloured wool shirting material as the lining.

As is usually found with these suits, the original manufacturer's label is located inside the right hand sleeve. Part of it has been removed when the lining was taken out but some information remains including the size of No. 4 and the 1945 date.

The suit is in good condition on the whole with some signs of wear and age. It is still very fresh and bright and displays well with some repairs to the legs which are illustrated in the pictures. Please study these before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a pre-owned, vintage item which may have small issues commensurate with age.

A very nice example of this hard to find pattern of tank suit with some interesting modifications.

This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
