About this item
A scarce original 'Jersey, Wool, Heavy, 1952 Pattern' which dates from the 1950s.
This pattern of Jumper came into issue in 1952 but was quickly replaced by the 1954 pattern which had additional cotton drill patches to the shoulders. Due to its short service life it is now arguably the rarest pattern of what are often referred to as 'Commando Sweaters'. The collar is lined with cotton drill and there are two holes in the front of the boat-shaped neck opening through which a cord is fitted and allows the neck to be tightened. The sleeves feature cotton drill elbow patches as well as cotton drill trim to the cuffs.
The jumper will fit around a 34-36" chest as they are designed to stretch out and cling to the body at the same time.
When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 14" (pulls out to 16 1/2")
Inside arm - 22"
Outside arm - 22 1/2"
Shoulders - 17"
Length - 26"
The condition of the jumper is good for its age and it displays well. There are some holes to the body of the jumper and another to the shoulder which are evident in the pictures. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
This is arguably the hardest find pattern of 'Jersey, Heavy' as it was only made for a short period of time. It would make a great addition to any collection without a doubt!
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
