Original 1951 Dated Civil Defence CD.19 Greatcoat - Size 8

An original British Civil Defence Greatcoat dating from 1951 which is in good, wearable condition.

This pattern of greatcoat was introduced in the immediate post-war period and issued to members of the Civil Defence. It is extermely similar to the wartime pattern with the main difference being the extra buttonhole on each lapel. The coat is made from a thick, very dark navy blue coloured serge blanket wool and it is fitted with plastic Civil Defence pattern buttons. Flapped pockets are located to the skirt and the rear features a half belt which again fastens with buttons. 

Inside the coat the original label is still present and is bright a legible. It bears the title of Greatcoat Men's CD. 19' and states the size as 8 which is intended to fit a 40" - 43" chest. The maker's name of 'H. Phillips is also present and below this is the War Department broad arrow marking. 

When laid flat the coat measures - 

Chest - 
Inside arm - 18 1/2"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 19"
Length at rear - 46"

The coat displays well and is still very wearable. There are numerous signs of age and wear but overall it is still a sound, wearable coat. There is some wear to the bottom of the skirt at the rear which is illustrate in the final picture as well as other associated signs of wear and use. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item with some issues commensurate with age.
