About this item
An original British Army 1972 Pattern Denison Smock which dates from the early 1970s and is in excellent condition.
Officially named 'Smock, Camouflage', this smock was the last pattern of 'true' denison smock to be manufactured. The similarity between this example and those of the Second World War are clear to be seen and it is unmistakably 'Denison'. It is the last iteration of the Denison Smock before the DPM version was introduced in 1977.
The smock is a standard 1972 pattern featuring a screen printed camouflage pattern of greens and browns on a tan field. A full length 'CLIX' branded zipper fastens the front and four patch pockets are present and close with 'Newey' branded press studs. Knitted cuffs are located to the end of each sleeve and epaulettes can be found at the shoulders. The fishtail is still present and has not been removed or stitched to the smock, as is often found. The interior of the collar is lined with khaki green coloured flannel wool shirting material.
Inside the smock the original label is still present and is clearly legible. It bears the title of 'Smock Camouflage' and the NSN number of 8405 99 973 5161. Below this is the size of 1 and the manufacturer's name 'H. E. Textiles Ltd' and the A/78 contract number which dates the smock to the early 1970s.
The smock is a small size, but being a smock it is cut in a very loose, oversized manner and this must be taken into account when considering the measurements below. When laid flat measures -
Chest - 27"
Inside arm - 22"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 19"
Length - 30"
The smock is in good condition overall with only very limited signs of wear and use. There is some wear to the cuffs, as is often encountered and a small area of wear to the rear which can be seen above the fishtail in picture 9. Overall it is an excellent example which still has bold and fresh camouflage colours and its displays extremely well. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a pre-worn, vintage jacket which may have small issues commensurate with age.
A fine example of this pattern of smock which would be hard to better in many ways.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
