About this item
An original British Army Parachutist's 'Denison' smock dating from the late 1970s which is in good condition.
This pattern of jump smock was introduced in 1977 and was the first to be made in the new Disruptive Pattern Material. The general design is very similar to the previous pattern of denison smock and the lineage with the original smock produced during WW2 is clear. The smock is made from cotton which has the DPM camouflage pattern printed on to it. The front of the jacket fastens with a metal zipper which is marked 'NZ' to the puller which denotes Newey as the maker. This style of zip was commonly used on 1970s British military garments and survived just into the early 1980s when the style with the smaller, pointed puller replaced them. Four pockets are fitted to the front which all fasten with metal press studs. More studs are located to the front of the jacket and allow the fish tail to be fastened between the wearer's legs. Epaulettes are located to the shoulders, knitted cuffs to the end of each sleeve and a First Field Dressing pocket is located to the upper left sleeve.
Inside the smock the original label is still present and is partly legible. The title of 'Smock, Parachutist's' is visible as is the size of 2. The A/78 contract number is also present which denotes this as an early, pre 1982 made example. The metric size of 170/104 has been added in ink underneath the label.
When laid flat the smock measures -
Chest - 25"
Inside arm - 23 1/2"
Outside arm - 23 1/2"
Shoulders - 21 3/4"
Length at rear - 31"
The smock is in very good condition overall and is still totally wearable with no serious flaws or damage. There are some limited signs of wear and use but overall it displays very well. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A very good example of this early pattern smock.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
