About this item

An original British Army Officers peaked cap which belonged to an officer of the Royal Signals and dates from the inter-war period.

This original cap is an early shape which was common in the inter-war period and very beginning of the Second World War. It is made from a khaki green coloured barathea wool and features a D-shaped peak with green underside and a stiff crown which can be worn in two positions - up or down. This is done by the means of a hinge fitted to the inside of the cap which is a typical inter-war trait (picture 10). To the front of the cap is an officers bronze service dress Royal Signals cap badge whilst an officers quality Royal Signals button is fitted to one side of the cap. The other is missing and the leather chin strap has been neatly tacked in place.

The interior of the cap features a quilted lining, typical of those found on early caps. The original maker's label is still present and features the maker's name of 'Alkit'. The graphics used pre-date those used by the company during the Second World War which confirms further that this is an inter-war period hat.

The hat is approximately a size 6 7/8 and measures 21 1/2" around the internal circumference of the headband.

The cap is in good overall condition and displays well as can be seen in the pictures. It has very signs of wear and there are a few moth holes which are illustrated in the pictures. Overall it has a great look to it but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing.

This is a really nice original cap which would be ideal for someone interested in the inter-war period or BEF!

This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
