ORIGINAL RAF REGIMENT TUNIC WW2

Original WWII Royal Air Force Regiment Other Airmen’s service dress tunic, wartime dated 1942. Retaining RAF Regiment shoulder titles, Regiment eagle formation patches, sergeant’s rank insignia and red lower sleeve distinctions. A genuine wartime RAF Regiment uniform in very good display condition, showing light service wear consistent with age.

The RAF Regiment was formed in 1942 during the Second World War to defend Royal Air Force airfields, radar stations and personnel from enemy attack. Created after German assaults on RAF bases exposed the need for a dedicated ground fighting force, the Regiment served in Britain, North Africa, Europe and the Far East. Trained as both infantry and airfield defence troops, the RAF Regiment became a permanent branch of the Royal Air Force and continues to serve today in force protection and combat support roles.

The RAF Regiment maintained bands and corps of drums for ceremonial duties, parades and military events. During and after the Second World War, RAF Regiment bandsmen wore standard RAF service dress with Regiment insignia, often distinguished by additional trade or musician markings on the lower sleeves. These bands formed part of the Regiment’s strong ceremonial tradition alongside its operational airfield defence role.
