An original US Navy Type N-3 HBT cap in a size 7 1/4.
Introduced as part of the HBT uniform in 1943 these caps saw issue during the Second World War with shore parties, construction battalions, amphibious units, combat, and security units amongst others.
The construction is similar to that of the AAF A-3 Cap but doesn’t have the external AAF logo and features a reinforced peak which is flexible and has a green underside. This example has had an Army Air Force patch added to the front of the cap at some stage and behind this is a stitched hole which probably mounted another badge prior to the addition of the patch.
Inside the cap the original stamp is still present and the size of 7 1/4 is still present.
The condition of the cap is reasonable for its age but it has seen some use and wear. Overall the hat is sound and displays and is totally wearable but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A good original and worn example of an N3 cap.
