About this item
A fantastic original private purchase example of a Border Regiment officer's coloured field service cap which dates from the Second World War.
Coloured FS caps were available to buy during the 1930s as well as throughout the Second World War. They offered a more colourful alternative to the standard issue headdress of the time and were worn when 'walking out' or on other special occasions when not on duty.
This cap is made from a dark green coloured wool and features a yellow interior to the crown. It is fitted with two Border Regiment buttons to the front and an officer's quality cap badge to the side. The construction is of a high quality which is typical of those made for officer's during this period.
The hat is lined with a silver coloured rayon and features a sweatband made of velvet. The original maker's label is still present and bears the maker's name of 'Meggitt & Co' along with the address of 40 John Dalton Street Manchester', all set in typical period graphics.
The cap is a large size which will fit around a size 7 1/4 head and quite possibly larger. When laid flat it measures 10 3/8" along the opening.
The cap is in good condition for its age and it displays well with some limited signs of wear and age.
All in all a nice period cap which would make a good addition to any collection.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
