About this item

A fine original British Army Officers collarless shirt dating from the Second World War.

This shirt is typical of those worn throughout WW2 and is essentially unchanged from those of the Great War. Made from a soft, khaki coloured wool flannel; the shirt features a half placket, or 'tunic' front. This style of shirt was popular in the first half of the 20th Century in the UK losing favour to more fitted full button front shirts in the 1950s. The shirt features a neckband style collar which is made from contrasting khaki coloured cotton. This bears the War Department broad arrow marking confirming that it is a military issue shirt as well as the maker's initials. The original owner has also marked his name in ink which reads 'O. B. Skevington' and may offer the prospect of further research.

Inside the neckband the original markings are present and are still bright and legible. The maker's initials of 'H. N & S Ltd' are present as is the 1944 date and the War Department broad arrow marking.

The shirt is a smaller size which will fit around a 34" chest depending on desired fit. When laid flat it measures -

Chest - 21"
Inside arm - 20 1/4"
Outside arm - 22"
Shoulders - 16 1/4"
Collar - 14"
Length at rear - 34 1/2"

The shirt is in very good condition for its age and is still very wearable. It only shows very limited signs of wear and age and on the whole it is in excellent condition. The shirt displays well and is very wearable but please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

A very nice original wartime example which is in excellent condition.

This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
