Original WW2 Dated British Army Ordinary Ranks Collarless Shirt - REGO

An original Second World War British Army Ordinary Ranks Collarless Shirt, clearly dating from the first half of the Second World War.

This pattern of shirt was introduced in the mid 1930s replacing the ‘grey back’ shirt issued during the Great War. The shirt is made from a khaki green wool flannel material and features a half placket, or 'tunic', front which fastens with three buttons. The collar is made of khaki coloured cotton drill whilst the buttons are the factory applied stamped zinc examples as used on early war shirts. This dates the shirt to being made prior to 1943 when plastic buttons were introduced. 

The inside of the neckband the maker's name of 'REGO' is present. This is a common maker to find as they were a prolific shirt maker for the British Army during WW2. There are some other stamps which were most likely added by the original owner. 

The shirt is a small size which will suit around a 36" chest depending on desired fit and  when laid flat the shirt measures -

Chest - 21 1/2"
Inside arm - 22"
Outside arm - 23 3/4"
Shoulders - 16 3/4"
Collar - 14 1/2"
Length - 32 1/2"

The shirt is in worn condition with signs of age and use. There is a period repair to the rear of the right sleeve and various small moth nips which are illustrated in the pictures and reflected in the price. Please take time to study these and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which has some flaws commensurate with age. 

Original wartime ordinary ranks shirts are hard to find with this early war version with zinc buttons being harder yet.
