About this item
An original United States Navy ten button peacoat which dates from the 1940s.
This pattern of coat was used throughout the Second World War by US Navy personnel and stayed in production until 1955. It is now a highly desirable pattern and is certainly a design classic which has been copied a multitude of times by the fashion industry for many decades.
The coat is made from a dark navy blue coloured wool and features a double breasted front which fastens with large plastic buttons which all feature an anchor emblem. Slash pockets are located to the waist and are lined with corduroy which is a feature common to some other American military jackets from the period.
The interior of the coat is lined in rayon and features a hanging loop to the neck. There is also a single interior pocket.
The coat will suit a 34" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -
Chest - 20"
Inside arm - 18"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 16"
Length at rear - 31 1/2"
The coat is in good condition for its age and is still totally wearable. It displays well with no serious flaws or damage. The armpit has been repaired where the stitching has pulled previously which is illustrated in picture 5. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A nice example of this true design classic. Own the original!
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
