    About this item

A rare original 1940s CC41 three button engineers jacket in deadstock condition.

This style of jacket was very popular in the UK throughout the first half of the 20th Century. The simple three button design is typical of the period and the three patch pockets are utilitarian yet functional making them ideal for men working in factories, workshops, garages and many other places. These jackets were often worn over bib and brace, overalls or just a shirt and tie.

The jacket is made from a brown coloured cotton drill and is fitted with three black revolving shank buttons which appear to be original to the piece. The jacket was made as part of the CC41 utility scheme which was brought into effect in the UK in 1941 as part of the larger rationing scheme. The idea behind it was that affordable, quality clothing would be available to everyone of every class and could be bought using coupons. The CC41 label is present to the neck and features the fabric code of X3111/2. There is also a size label above this which reads '36'.

When laid flat the jacket measures -

    Chest - 19 1/2"
    Inside arm - 18 1/2"
    Outside arm - 26"
    Shoulders 17 1/4"
    Length - 28"

The jacket is in excellent condition and does not appear to have been worn. There are a coupe of marks which are detailed in the pictures but overall it is a very fine looking jacket.

A rare piece of 1940s British workwear with the all important utility label and in fantastic condition. A must have for the serious British vintage collector!
