About this item

A rare original Australian Herringbone Twill Jungle Green Battledress Jacket, dated 1943 and in good condition.

This pattern of jacket was produced for wear in tropical climates and is clearly based on the British battledress jacket design. It is made from a green coloured HBT fabric which makes it clearly different to any British made jackets. It features patch pockets to the front which don't have the inverted pleat to the centre which would suggest this is an economy pattern. Brown coloured buttons are fitted throughout and are of the same style usually encountered on wartime Australian made clothing. The waist fastens with two buttons in the same layout as seen on some Australian made khaki drill items from this period.

Inside the jacket the original stamps are still present and the 1943 date is still legible. There is a second date stamp with the year of 1955 which would suggest it was re-issued in that year.

The jacket will suit a 34" - 36" chest depending on desired fit and when laid flat it measures -

Chest - 20"
Waist - 15 1/2"
Inside arm - 20"
Outside arm - 26"
Shoulders - 17"
Length - 21 1/2"

The jacket is in good condition overall and is still wearable. There are no serious flaws or damage with some signs of laundering and wear. Overall it displays very well but please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage item which may have some small flaws commensurate with age.

A rare original piece of 1940s military wear!

This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
