About this item
Astro Compass Mk II:
The Astro Compass Mk II was a compact and robust instrument designed specifically for aircraft use.
It was primarily used for celestial navigation, allowing pilots to determine their precise position by measuring the angles between celestial bodies, such as the sun, moon, and stars, and the horizon.
The Mk II was an improved version of its predecessor, featuring enhanced accuracy and reliability.
It consisted of a spherical housing with a sighting mechanism and an internal compass, along with various knobs and dials for adjustments.
Inside the housing, there were lenses and mirrors to assist with sighting celestial bodies.
The device was calibrated to the geographic location and time, providing accurate readings even in challenging conditions.
The Astro Compass Mk II played a crucial role in long-range navigation, especially during night flights or when other navigation aids were unavailable or unreliable.
