About this item
A rare original 1943 dated Royal Australian Navy Fearnaught Jacket in unworn condition.
This jacket is made from a white coloured wool which is the same as that used for the British duffle jackets which were used by the Royal Navy and British Army and look similar to this. The jacket is designed to be worn as an outer layer and is therefore cut in a loose manner. It features a short collar, two large patch pockets to the front and fastens with three large buttons. Both the pockets and the cuffs feature a blue selvedge type stripe which is a great detail.
Inside the jacket there is a small label to the neck which bears the size of 1 which is the smallest produced. There is a second, larger label to the skirt which would have been removed when the jacket was issued which indicates that this is an un-worn, deadstock example. It also bears the size of 1 as well as the name 'Jacket Fearnought R.E.V. Yard'. Towards the bottom of the label there is a contract number which bears the date of 7.43 which denotes July 1943.
The coat is cut in a wide manner so will fit a range of chest sizes, depending on desired fit but will suit around a 38" chest well. When laid flat it measures -
Chest - 23"
Inside arm - 21"
Outside arm - 25 1/2"
Shoulders - 19"
Length - 29 1/2"
The coat is in good condition for its age with no signs of wear and use. There are some storage marks to the reverse which may come up with cleaning. There is also some minor moth grazing to the left patch pocket. Overall it displays well but please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A rare piece of vintage military clothing, which is a genuine wartime example.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
