About this item
A very good WW1 British Staff Officers Cuff Rank Tunic to a Major
The Tunic is a nice pre-1912 closed collar type which has then been re-tailored to an open collar following the British Army Dress Regulations stipulating the change that year.
In keeping with this it has the wide central pleat of pre-war Cuff Rank Tunics to the back, along with signs of the now defunct and sewn shut top buttonhole still visible beneath the later lapel. Such alterations were very typical of long serving officers, this status further confirmed by the Queen’s South Africa medal ribbon above the left breast pocket showing a Boer War veteran.
The lapels have the red gorget patches of a Staff Officer, and each lower sleeve bears the Cuff Rank tape and crown of a Major. It has a complete set of brass buttons to the Yorkshire Hussars, this the previous regiment of the original owner. Part lined in khaki silk with a tailor’s label for Hawkes & Co to the back of the neck.
Very good service used condition overall with no moth.
