Original Great War Period Private Purchase Sheepskin Flying Gauntlets

 An original pair of First World War period British made leather and sheepskin gauntlets which are in good condition. 

This style of gauntlets was made in the Edwardian period for motoring and aviation enthusiasts. Worm clothing was paramount for anyone flying or driving during this period due to the exposed nature of aeroplane cockpits and cars. This called for specific warm clothing which led to gauntlets such as this being produced. They were highly popular with flyers and are typical of those worn by members of the Royal Flying Corps, particularly in the early days. 

The gloves feature a 'Teddybear Fut' style exterior to the top side and leather to palm and fingers on the underside. The interior is lined with a natural fur which looks similar to astrakhan or possibly a type of goat fur. The original label is present to the interior and bears typical period graphics which feature gold lettering and a black coloured field. The maker's name of 'W. J. Milne Ltd' is present as is the place name of Aberdeen. There is also a size label which bears the number '8' which is again gold on a black field. 

The gauntlets are in reasonable condition for their age with some flaws, mainly to the fur parts, as illustrated in the pictures. Please take time to study these before purchasing and bear in mind that they are a vintage, pre-owned item which have some small flaws commensurate with age. 

A good pair of early 20th Century gauntlets which would compliment an RFC display or similar.
