About this item
108) Tatty Damaged Original WW2 Battle Of Britain Pilots MKIIIA Goggles Dated 1939. In need of restoration. The frames are good with original finish but look out of shape and show bending to the frame housing etc. One side head strap fitting has long since snapped off and has been replaced with a piece of copper wire bent to shape. The original was a simply blackened brass wire soldered in place so could be fixed fairly easily? The other side is fine. One nose hinge stop has snapped off (pretty common with these). The lenses have warped with age and are very dirty. The rear tan velvet type material is mostly very nice and clean but for one small nick (see photos) The leather nose is perfect just dusty. The elasticated head strap fittings are perfect one one side. The other side top spring is fine, the other springs have come unattached inside and left the material looking loose. The leather strap and buckle is excellent with Nice AM markings and 1939 date. This is the British made version not RCAF. The underside has a faint RAF service number which looks to be " 957921" not easy to see some of it but this looks to be the correct number.
