About this item
An original pair of RAF MK VIII Goggles in excellent condition, complete with clear Air Ministry markings.
These goggles are arguably the most iconic of all RAF goggles and saw use with aircrews from 1942 well into the post-war years. They also saw action with USAAF crews, Fleet Air Arm and Coastal Command amongst others.
This particular pair are in good condition and still retain the majority of their original blue paint to the brass frames which feature curved rims, often considered a trait of wartime goggles. The leather face pads are nice and the stitching appears strong whilst the chamois leather backing of the face cushions is very clean. The circular AID stamp is still visible to the chamois on the bridge suggesting that the goggles have seen little to no wear. The bridge section of the goggles features clear markings which include the Air Ministry AM and crown marking as well as stroes reference number. The lenses are in reasonable condition with some signs of delamination.
The goggles feature an original elastic strap which is also in very good condition. It is still the deep, blue-grey colour it would have been when issued and all the metal work is bright and clear with only limited signs of age. Both the leather pull tabs are also still present and in good condition.
Overall these are a very nice pair of original RAF goggles with the sought-after AM stamp that would make a nice addition to any RAF collection.
