About this item
An original pair of RAF MK VII Goggles in good condition which date from the Second World War.
These goggles are one of the most iconic of all RAF goggles and saw use with aircrews from 1942 and also saw action with USAAF crews, Fleet Air Arm and Coastal Command amongst others.
This particular pair are in nice condition and still retain a high amount of their original blue paint to the brass frames. The bridge piece bears clear Air Ministry and crown marking along with the RAF stores reference code of 22C/826
The original grey elastic strap is still present and retains a reasonable amount of its elasticity. It features the standard chromium plated metal slider which retains both of its leather pull tabs. There has clearly been an impact across the left side resulting in a bend to the top of the frame in the centre. This appears to have been caused by an impact, possibly in a cockpit and most likely in an aircraft. The nut above this has been changed and looks to be a period replacement - quite likely due to the impact.
The lenses are in good condition with some limited sign of delamination, as is often encountered on goggles of this vintage. The leather nose piece is also good with some signs of age and some loss of stitching although it displays fine. The strap is the original and still retains some elasticity. There are some rust marks etc as illustrated in the pictures.
Overall these are a very nice pair of guaranteed original wartime RAF goggles which are in good condition and clearly have a history.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
