RAF Mk111A Flying Goggles

A very good pair of RAF Mk111a Goggles named to E Grisenthwaite along with his service number 1138822.

The Goggles are in very good condition, both vent trumpets and stops are in place, the fames without damage and the springs perfect. The leather strap remains very good, the roll at the end removed to allow for ease of removal. As is always the case, the velvet covered rubber pads around the inside of the frame have hardened.

Flt Sgt. Eric Grisenwaite RAFVR was 22 years old when he was killed whilst flying in Wellington III, HF678 of No 70 Sqn, which dived into the ground near Misurata during a bombing practice.  He is buried in Tripoli War Cemetery. Being a training exercise he obviously left the goggles behind on the day and they no doubt continued in use with another owner.
