About this item

WW2 RAF MKIVB Flying goggles - Boxed w/ Accessories - Battle of Britain. A lovely, complete, and boxed pair of these early war flying goggles, iconic in images of Battle of Britain pilots and aircrew.

This pair is in very good condition, most likely unissued. The frames retain nearly all of their original black painted finish, with only minor loss that we can see. The goggles are fitted with an original set of clear MKIVB goggle lenses. They are relatively clean and clear with very minor delamination. In the middle, the leather nose pad is still attached and stitched in place, with chamois to the reverse, all in excellent condition. The foam inside often goes hard, but this is still somewhat soft.

To the reverse of the goggles, the 4 foam facepads have gone hard and have some crazing to them. This is so common with these goggles, however, and we see it all the time on this mark of goggles. It's due to the nature of the foam rubber, which just ages over time. Regardless, they are all still in place and haven't broken off. The strap arrangement consists of two large "loops" and a leather strap to the rear. The two large loops are in good condition, and we can see no damage or issues. The leather strap has 2 sprung sections, again in good condition without issue. Still retaining good springiness. The leather section itself is in excellent condition, still with a very nice brown finish. Nicely marked with a large A.M. crown, MKIVB, and stores reference number 22C/167. The goggles are completed with the flip-down sunscreen, once again in excellent condition, without any issues or damage we can see. Operating perfectly and movable to several different positions.

The goggles come in the original cardboard transit box, also nicely marked on the front with details. Included inside is the accessories kit, which has a full set of guide plates and guides for attaching to a flying helmet, all 12 small copper rivets, a demist tube, a goggle nut tightening tool, tinted lenses, and a leather brow strip.

Overall, a really great set of these iconic goggles, getting harder to find in good, complete condition. Grab these while you can. Perfect for display in any RAF display, collection, or museum.
