US M1A1 Pressure Firing Device – Booby Trap
This is the American M1A1, a mechanical switch designed for firing explosives charges by means of a pressure switch, complete in this case with a dummy Mk 2 hand grenade.
Overall condition is very good, the device now inert with the percussion cap long since fired. With exception of any extension to be screwed into the pressure cap, for example the three pronged adapter, the device is complete and ideal for display.
A pressure of 20 lbs or more applied to the trigger (pressure cap) pin would actuate these devices.
Various extensions or attachments to the pressure head were available in order that the switch can be adapted to varying circumstances.
The principal parts are the body, trigger pin and pressure head, striker spindle, standard nipple base, safety clip, and safety pin.
The projection of the trigger pin which extends down into the body has two holes of varying diameter with an inter-connecting slot.
