    Awarded to Staff Nurse Mary Ann Brown served with Queens Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service Reserve. British War Medal & Victory Medal (S/NURSE.M. A. BROWN). Papers indicate she probably lived in Darnall, Sheffield. Embarked for service in France on the 23rd April 1918 having previously served at Southwark Military Hospital. On arrival she saw service at No 6 General Hospital and later with No’s 29 and 18 Casualty Clearing Stations. Further details indicate in her service record that on the 18th March 1919 she disembarked for Folkestone, England to which her service with the Q.A.I.M.N.S. (R) ended whilst with 35 General Hospital. Medal Index Card shows that the British War and Victory Medal was her sole medal entitlement. Further research shows that in the early 20’s Miss Mary Ann Brown was married on the 28th February 1922 at All Saints Church, Benhilton in Surrey. She married Lieutenant Horace Gramshaw Payne Ovenden a serving officer in the Royal Air Force. Also noted is Mary Ann Overden (nee Brown) is recorded in the ‘Register of Names for 1928 and 1946’ to which is shown that she was still continuing her nursing profession.
