About this item

Colt Navy model 1851 percussion revolver 36 calibre, with a all matching numbers and accessories. The Colt have strong action and is in very good condition. It's an antique firearm under section 58/2. No firearms licence needed. (more photos on dealer (Collexchange) product page.

Early "First Model" or "Second Model" Navies (serial numbers under 10,000) are highly sought after by collectors because they feature distinct characteristics not found on later production runs.

Model: Colt 1851 Navy (Percussion)

Caliber: .36

Year of Manufacture: 1851 (Early Production)

Serial Number: 7952

Condition: The metal appears to have a smooth, natural grey-brown patina. The brass trigger guard and backstrap show an aged "mustard" tone. The "G" stamp near the trigger guard is a factory inspector's mark.

Grips: The walnut grips show honest wear with "FLN" or similar initials carved into the side, this is common with period-used firearms and often adds to the "story" of the piece, though it can affect the value compared to mint specimens.

A "cased" set is significantly more valuable than the revolver alone, especially when the accessories appear period-correct:

The Case: Mahogany with a classic red velvet interior. The "Colt’s Patent" label on the inner lid is a vital piece of provenance,.

Powder Flask: A "Colt's Navy" size flask with the embossed stand-of-flags and cannon motif.

Bullet Mold: The two-cavity iron mold used for casting round balls and conical bullets.

Cap Tin: A vintage U.M.C. (Union Metallic Cartridge Co.) percussion cap tin.

Other Tools: Includes a period screwdriver/nipple wrench and a cleaning rod.

Historical Context
The 1851 Navy was one of Samuel Colt's most successful designs. It was famously favored by figures like Wild Bill Hickok and was widely used during the American Civil War.
