About this item
Beautiful Jones & Co of London flintlock boxlock pistol in later case with accessories. In full working order. Nice collector piece.
Jones & Co, a known London gunsmith operating in the early 1800s. The firm was active during the late Georgian and Regency periods and is recognized for producing quality flintlock firearms.
Boxlock pistol — a compact firearm where the firing mechanism (lock) is housed within the frame (or "box") rather than being externally mounted like in sidelock pistols.
Flintlock — sparks are created by striking a piece of flint against a frizzen, igniting the powder in the pan.
Smoothbore barrel, likely turn-off (removable for loading).
Engraved boxlock action, often marked “Jones & Co London”.
Sliding safety or half-cock position.
Folding trigger (typical of pocket pistols).
Bag-shaped walnut grips, sometimes checkered.
No ramrod, as they were typically loaded off-gun with accessories.
While this pistol would not originally have come in a fitted case, later casing was common among collectors and restorers in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Likely Accessories Include:
Ball mold (for casting lead balls)
Powder flask (sometimes original, often later)
Turnscrew (small screwdriver)
Cleaning rod or worm
Nipple wrench or pricker (though for percussion pistols—occasionally included erroneously)
Patches and balls (modern additions in many cases)
