About the Maker – Seglas of London
Seglas was a lesser-known but skilled London-based gunsmith active in the early to mid-18th century. Though little documentation survives, pistols signed by Seglas are known to collectors and appreciated for their refined craftsmanship and adherence to the practical boxlock style favored in Georgian England.
These pistols were carried by merchants, travelers, and well-to-do gentlemen for defense against footpads and highwaymen. The quality and condition of surviving examples, especially in all-steel construction like this one, speak to their durability and discreet elegance.
Seglas pistols are highly desirable among collectors for their rarity, quality, and historical significance.
