A very nice example of an Army M42 Field Cap
Constructed in a field-grey wool/rayon blend, with fold down back and side panels with scalloped front edge and forward sides, and two pebbled, magnetic sheet metal button front closure.
Back and side panels were designed to be folded down to protect the wearers ears and neck, and the scalloped front section could be secured with the buttons closed under the wearers chin. On each side is a single ventilation grommet. The cloth is in very good condition with just one pin head size moth hole.
Insignia is in a T shape with the silver grey eagle sitting above the national roundel, both in BeVo weave on a rayon backing which appears to have been re applied.
Inside, the lining is rayon, in very good condition and with the size, 57 and makers stamp, just visible.
