RAF Wing Commanders Khaki Drill Jacket & Cap.Theatre Made Pilots Wings

A very nice example of a Khaki Drill Service Dress Jacket and Service Dress cap to a Wing Commander Pilot.

Possibly theatre made the jacket has two lower bellows flapped pockets and two pleated and flapped breast pockets the Jacket itself closed by a single row of four buttons with a lay flat open neck collar. There is a removable waistbelt and the sleeves are closed at the cuff by a single button allowing them to be pushed or rolled up. Each shoulder carriers the rank slips of a Wing Commander.

Above the left breast pocket are two rows of pin back medal ribbon bars which may or may not be original to the Jacket which is simply named Carver. I can find no Carver mentioned in dispatches.

Without doubt the high point of the collection is a superb theatre made pair of King’s Crown Pilot’s wings with press fasteners, possibly made in Egypt. Interestingly there was a Sq. Leader H.C.G. Carver who was the Personal Staff Officer to Air Marshal Sir Keith Park at HQ Cairo in 1944 and may also have gone with him when he was Air Commander SEAC in 1945.

Overall condition of the Jacket is very good with a white drip of something covered by the belt and stitch marks at the back where a sewn in belt was once fitted.  

The Cap by Bates is unnamed and has clearly seen extensive service use in a hot climate having faded and been affected by perspiration, its condition now poor.
