Original 1930s British Army Service Dress Cap

An original British Army Ordinary Ranks Peaked Cap which dates from the inter-war period.

This pattern of cap came into issue with the British Army during the inter-war period and saw service throughout the Second World War and into the 1950s. It is often referred to as the '1922 Pattern' by collectors today. It was worn with the Service Dress uniform but was also seen worn with the new Battledress uniform introduced in 1938. They were still being worn by a number of units during the Phoney War and during the Battle for France with some regiments or individuals still wearing them later in the war.

This example is not the more commonly found 1940s or 1950s produced example but dates from the pre-war period. This is denoted by the lining which is different to the oil cloth seen on later production caps. The serge wool is also notably coarse and has a shaved, or worn in appearance. The peak features a green underside as is often encountered and the sweatband is made from black coloured oil cloth. There are no markings left inside the hat. 

The cap is fitted with an original brass Royal Fusiliers cap badge and a leather chin strap which is held onto the hat with two brass general service buttons.

The hat is a size 6 7/8. 

The cap is in good condition overall and displays well. There are some signs of wear and age but no serious flaws or damage. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small issues commensurate with age. 

A nice original period cap which would suit a collector or a re-enactor well.
