Original 1953 Dated British Army Navy Blue Beret - Size 7 1/8
A fine example of a British Army beret as worn by all Ordinary Ranks from the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s.
This pattern of beret replaced the khaki green version used during the Second World War and saw widespread issue for a number of years. It is made from a navy blue wool and features a black leather headband. The interior is lined with black cotton and two black painted eyelets can be found to the underside.
Inside the beret the original markings are still present and are bright and legible. The maker's name 'Beret Industries Ltd' is present as is the War Department broad arrow marking, the size of 7 1/8 and the 1953 date. As well as this the War Department acceptance stamp is also present and is surmounted by the letter 'L'.
The beret is in excellent condition and shows next to no signs of wear or use.
A very nice example of this pattern of beret which would be hard to better!
