About this item
A nice original example of a British Army Officer's Forage Cap which belonged to an officer of the Indian Electrical & Mechanical Engineers.
These caps were first issued during the Great War by Officers (particularly those in the Royal Flying Corps) and became a popular alternative to the peaked cap during the Second World War. This example is a Second War example which is fitted with a bronze officer's quality Indian Electrical & Mechanical Engineers cap badge and two officers quality General Service buttons are fitted to the front. The interior is lined with a gold coloured rayon and there is also a velvet headband fitted around the inside edge of the cap.
The cap is around a size 7.
The overall condition of the cap is very good as can be seen in the photographs. The wool barathea used to make the body of the cap is perfect with no rips, tears although there are some small holes to one side which have been reflected in the price. The cap badge is missing a lug to the reverse meaning it is somewhat loose on the cap - This has also been taken into account with the price.
Overall, a nice example of a private purchase officers cap which would suit both the collector and the re-enactor equally.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
