About this item
A good original Royal Air Force Officer's Peaked Cap made by 'Austin Reed' in the 1940s.
This pattern of cap was worn by RAF officers in the pre-war period and well into the postwar years. This example is a typical mid war shape with a D-shaped peak and small crown. The label is also the style used by Austin Reed during the war. The cap is fitted with a black coloured mohair band and an original King's crown RAF cap badge is fitted to this and both appear to be original to the cap. The chin strap is a sympathetic replacement which could easily be improved.
To the interior of the cap is lined with rayon and there is a leather sweatband. The original label is still present and reads 'Austin Reed Regents Street London'.
The hat is approximately a size 7 and measures as 21 1/2" around the interior circumference.
The overall condition of the cap is very good with signs of wear and age. There are a couple of small holes to the rear underside of the crown which are not that noticeable when displayed / worn. There are a couple more to the top of the crown as illustrated. The leather sweatband has also lost some of its stitching as illustrated in the pictures. Please study the pictures and bear in mind that this is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.
A fair original example of an RAF officer's hat from a well known British maker.
This is a vintage item which is 'sold as seen'
