Original WW2 RAF Officer's Peaked Cap

A nice original RAF officer's peaked cap which dates from the Second World War.

This cap has many of the traits considered to be typical of early manufactured hats by collectors. The green underside of the peak is one of the main attributes which indicates an early production cap as well as the deep leather internal sweatband and padded interior which are again associated with early British headwear. The tall sides and stiff crown complete the overall image of a typical early war cap.

The hat is made from the standard RAF blue-grey coloured barathea wool and to the front of the cap is an original padded Kings Crown RAF Officers cap badge which is in good condition and appears to be original to the cap. Below this is a chinstrap which is again original and of the correct pattern for the era and not a later addition. It is a narrow example which is typical of the period although it is missing one of its sliders which has clearly broken at some stage.

The interior of the cap features a brown coloured leather sweatband which is marked 'Real Roam Leather'. The original owner has also added his name in ink although it is hard to read.

The overall condition of the hat is good as can be seen from the photographs. It has clearly been worn and issued and has a 'salty', been there, feel to it. There are no serious flaws or damage, save for the aforementioned issue with the chin strap, and overall it displays very nicely. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-owned item which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

On the smaller side, this cap will fit a head of 6 7/8 at the largest and will fit on most modern display heads.
