    About this item

A good original, if somewhat grubby, example of a wartime made RAF Officers side cap.

These caps were used in place of the officers' peaked cap throughout the Second World War as they were easier to store, being easily folded and put into a pocket.

This example is typical of wartime caps being made from the same blue wool barathea as the Service Dress jacket and trousers. It features the usual suede headband to the interior and the lining is a plain black cotton.

The cap is a good size measuring 11" along the opening when laid flat which equates to approximately a size 7 1/4.

On the outside of the cap is an original Brass RAF officers cap badge surmounted by a king's crown. As well as this are two brass RAF buttons to the front of the cap.

The overall condition of the hat is extremely good with no rips, tears or moth to be found. It has a bright, fresh look to it and displays very well indeed.

All together, a nice original wartime cap in great condition which would compliment any RAF collection.
