    About this item

An original British Army officer's Service Dress uniform which belonged to K C R Brown who served with the Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire Light Infantry during the Second World War.

All the items in the group were made by 'Alkit' who were a prolific maker of clothing for officer's for many years. The Service Dress suit is made from a khaki green coloured barathea wool which is typical of the period. The Oxs & Bucks had some specific rules on dress which are reflected in the jacket which features a square, double prong waist belt buckle as well as gorgets and buttons to the collar. All the buttons are the regimental pattern and the rank starts fitted to the epaulettes are miniature examples. Inside the jacket features a fully rayon lining and twin interior pockets. One of these houses the original label which bears the label used by 'Alkit' throughout the Second World War. The trousers are also typical of 1940s Service Dress featuring a high rise waist, button fly and brace buttons around the waist.

The cap is a fur felt example and again was made by Alkit. It is fitted with a Bugle badge to the front - These were silvered by the regiment at their own cost. A leather chin strap is fitted to the front and is held in place with regimental pattern buttons. The peak features a green underside which is an attribute usually associated with early manufacture caps. The maker's label is present to the interior and is the style used during WW2 by Alkit. The hat is approximately a size 6 7/8.

The final piece of the grouping is the greatcoat which is a very nicely made example. It features regimental pattern buttons throughout and rank stars are fitted to the epaulettes. The interior of the coat features a partial lining of rayon and there is a hanging latch located to the neck. The original throat latch is still intact and is fastened below the interior pocket. Inside this pocket the original label is present and bears the owner's name of '2/Lt Brown' which would suggest he bought this coat when first commissioned and wore it as he rose in rank. There is also a small name tag fitted to the inside of the coat which reads 'K. C. B. Brown'.

The set is for a smaller build of around a 34" chest. When laid flat it measures -

    Service Dress jacket
    Chest - 19"
    Inside arm - 19 3/4"
    Outside arm - 26 3/4"
    Shoulders - 17 1/2"
    Length at rear - 31 1/2"

    Trousers
    Waist - 15"
    Inside leg - 32"

    Greatcoat
    Chest - 20 1/2"
    Inside arm - 19 3/4"
    Outside arm - 27 1/2"
    Shoulders - 18 1/2"
    Length at rear - 50"

All of the items are in good condition with some signs of wear and age etc. The tunic features a few blemishes to the front as can be seen in the pictures. Overall all the items display well but please take time to study the pictures and bear in mind that they are vintage, pre-owned items which may have small flaws commensurate with age.

    A nice original grouping!
