About this item
A very nice original British Army Commando beret dating from the late 1960s which is in unissued condition.
This pattern of beret was introduced during the Second World War to be worn by Army Commandos as well as Royal Marine Commandos. They have been synonymous with Commandos since their inception and are still worn today. This example dates from the late 1960s based on the contract number which makes it ideal for someone collecting Northern Ireland 'Troubles' period items etc.
The beret is made from a lovat green coloured wool and features a black coloured leather sweatband. Two black painted metal eyelets are fitted to one side of the hat which act as ventilation holes. The interior is lined in a black coloured cotton to which the original label is still present. It bears the Vocab number of 70240 below which is the size of 7 1/8. The maker's initials 'J. C. S. & W.' are also present as is the A/78 contract number which dates the hat to the middle late 1960s.
The beret is in with only some very small flaws related to age. Overall it displays very well and has clearly never been worn or issued.
A very nice example which is in great condition.
