About this item
The 1st Ayrshire Yeomanry Cavalry Victorian Officers Blue Cloth Helmet Plate. A large (4”X3”) Gilt 8 pointed Star on this an oval strap “1st Airshire” (sic) Yeomanry to the center St Andrew and Cross. Worn on the Blue Cloth Helmet circa 1890. A superb badge in great condition. 4 screwposts to the rear.A stunning piece of late-Victorian militaria.
The oval band reads "1st AIRSHIRE YEOMANRY". The intentional use of "1st AIRSHIRE" with an "I" reflects period spelling variants commonly seen on 19th-century military insignia.
Central Iconography: The center features a detailed, full-length figure of St. Andrew bearing his saltire cross.
Constuction & Backing: The reverse displays hollow-stamped construction with four soldered threaded screwposts complete with modern-style hexagonal brass nuts.
