About this item

The Kings Own Scottish Borderers Officers silver glengarry badge with Kings Crown pre 1952. Fully fretted in excellent condition silver lugs

Regiment: King's Own Scottish Borderers (KOSB).

The badge features the Castle of Edinburgh enclosed by a circlet inscribed "King's Own Scottish Borderers", surrounded by a wreath of thistles.

The regiment's mottoes "In Veritate Religionis Confido" (In the truth of religion I trust) and "Nisi Dominus Frustra" (Unless the Lord builds, in vain) are clearly displayed on the scrollwork.

Era: Pre-1952 (King's Crown). The badge is surmounted by the Tudor (King's) Crown topped with a cresting lion, denoting manufacture prior to the accession of Queen Elizabeth II in 1952.

Rank & Construction: Officer's Pattern. Designed for an officer's glengarry cap, the badge is fully fretted (pierced/cut-out around the circlet, lettering, and castle details) rather than cast solid, which is characteristic of high-quality officer-grade insignia.

Fixings: East-West Silver Lugs. The reverse features two intact, original silver loop fixings mounted horizontally (east-west), intended for securing with a pin to a fabric cap rosette or glengarry.

Condition: Excellent. The silver displays crisp detail on the lion, crown, castle brickwork, and thistle foliage, with clean original pierced work and no visible damage or repairs.
