About this item

An exceptionally fine example of a Victorian Officers' Headdress/Balmoral Cap Badge for The Royal Scots (1st Battalion) in silver, gilt and blue enamel. This is in immaculate condition and was worn circa 1870. 2 lugs to rear. Price includes delivery within the UK. Additional charges apply for international shipping.

Badge Details & Features
Design & Construction: featuring the radiant Star of the Order of the Thistle in faceted silver/silver plate.

Motto & Title Strap: The surrounding gilt oval strap displays the Latin motto of the Order of the Thistle: NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSIT ("No one provokes me with impunity"), along with the regimental title THE ROYAL REGIMENT.

Centerpiece: Features a finely detailed gilt figure of St. Andrew holding his saltire cross set over rich royal blue enamel.

Battalion Identification: The blue enamel backing is specifically indicative of the 1st Battalion, as the 2nd Battalion traditionally utilized green enamel for their officers' badges.

Reverse: Complete with the original two East-West copper/brass loops (lugs) on the reverse, used to secure the badge with a split pin.

Condition Note: The blue enamel remains fully intact without visible chipping, and the gilt detail over the silver star shows crisp definition. Pieces in this condition with complete enamel, original lugs, and unblemished gilding are highly desirable among collectors of Scottish military insignia.
