Original 1944 Dated British Army Dispatch Rider's Helmet - Size 7

An excellent wartime example of a dispatch rider's helmet dated 1944 and in a size 7. 

This pattern of helmet was introduced specifically for motorcyclists in 1942 and saw widespread issue throughout the rest of the Second World War. It shares the same shell as the Helmet, Steel, Airborne Troops but has a different liner system which is specific to this pattern. 

The date is stamped inside the leather headband as well as the manufacture 'BMB' which stands for British Motor Bodies, one of the most prolific helmet manufactures of the Second World War. Also stamped is the size 7 inside a shield shape along with the 1944 date. 

The outside of the helmet retains the vast majority of its original factory applied green finish which is the typical of the colour used by BMB throughout the war. There is the odd chip and numerous blemishes which are to be expected but overall the condition is very good as can be seen in the pictures. Some numbers have been painted to the rear of the helmet in white. The interior is in good condition overall. The leather work is in good shape as are the buckle and pop stud on the chin strap. The white cotton head support is complete although one of the loops has broken. The felt ear covers inside the helmet are also missing but neither of these flaws detract from the way the helmet displays. Please take time to study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that it is a vintage, pre-worn item which may have small flaws commensurate with age. 

This helmet would compliment any WW2 collection without a doubt.
