About this item
An original, genuine English Civil War period helmet, circa 1640, with traditional, articulated lobster-tail pattern lames [neck defences] made in several parts and riveted, hence its nickname ‘the lobster pot’. Extended peak, eight ribs skull, with traditional top skull mounted ring and single nasal bar. Twin iron ear flaps, both with leather hinging intact. Although traditionally associated with the Cromwellian roundheads, these helmets were, in reality, worn by both sides in the English Civil War. In overall russetted condition, with a small area of metal holing on one side. Hand-carved display stand included with armourer’s receipt from 1957.
