About this item
An original M1 helmet, with a front seam, replacement swivel bales. General good condition, believed to be McCord made. Has had replacement straps added, typical of in-theatre repairs using a rivet. Heat stamp is very difficult to read, possibly '31B 2' the format of which does correspond with other early war McCord heat stamps.
The 31 gives an approximate manufacture date of Q3 1941, so one of the earliest made. This would originally have had fixed bales, but these were very prone to breaking off and being field replaced with swivel bales. This makes sense given the field repairs to the strap as well.
The name Clancy has been painted inside the helmet.
The liner which is just visible in the photographs is for posing the helmet only, it is not included in the sale.
