About this item
An original Royal Army Service Corps coloured Field Service Cap in unissued condition.
Coloured side caps such as this were a popular alternative headwear for 'walking out' and other special occasions during the 1930s and the Second World War. They were not an issue item but bought privately by individual soldiers who wanted to give their uniform more colour.
This cap is made from a magenta coloured wool and features a black skirt and two brass general service buttons to the front. The cap has clearly never been fitted with a cap badge which would suggest that it is unissued. The interior of the cap is lined with a silver coloured rayon and the sweatband is made from cotton tape. The original size label is still present to the interior and states the size as 7.
The cap is in excellent condition for its age and it displays very well. It has clearly never been worn as there is no soiling to the interior and there are only very limited signs of age. Please study the pictures before purchasing and bear in mind that this is a vintage item which may have very small flaws commensurate with age.
All in all a very nice period cap which would make a good addition to any collection.
